We are seeking a Birth Doula to provide culturally responsive and client-centered birth support to individuals and families served by Abide. As a key member of our clinical and community support teams, you will empower clients through education, emotional support, and advocacy throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. You will work closely with midwives, clinic staff, and community support staff to ensure clients receive holistic, affirming, and informed care. Your presence will help foster trust, strengthen family support systems, and create a seamless continuum of care for every birthing person.

What You'll Do
1. Emotional and Physical Support
  • Offer continuous emotional and physical support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.
  • Create a calm, reassuring, and empowering birth environment tailored to each client’s needs.
  • Provide comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, position changes, and non-medical pain relief methods.
  • Guide expectant parents in optimizing fetal positioning and movement to support labor progression.
  • Assist in comforting newborns and guiding parents in their first interactions, promoting bonding and confidence.
2. Informational Support and Advocacy
  • Educate expectant parents with evidence-based information about the birthing process, medical procedures, and their rights and options.
  • Assist families in developing individualized birth plans that align with their preferences.
  • Advocate for client choices during labor and delivery, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
  • Provide guidance on navigating medical interventions and supporting informed decision-making.
3. Postpartum and Community-Based Support
  • Offer early postpartum guidance, including breastfeeding assistance, newborn care education, and emotional support to help clients navigate their postpartum transition.
  • Connect clients with community resources for additional postpartum support as needed.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with clients, providing reassurance, encouragement, and a compassionate presence.
  • Be available on-call as clients approach their due dates, ensuring timely and reliable labor and postpartum support.
  • Attend team meetings and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic client care and seamless support across services.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training to stay informed on best practices in doula care and organizational functions, enhancing the quality of support provided.
Flexibility and Adaptability

Who You Are
  • Completion of doula training and certification from a recognized program.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • At least one year of hands-on experience in maternal health, doula care, or a related community-based or clinical setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to effectively read, write, and speak in both languages preferred.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and electronic medical record systems (EMRs such as Client Care, Maternity Neighborhood, or Mobile Midwife).
  • Deeply committed to maternal justice, anti-racism, and equitable healthcare access.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to thrive in a startup environment where creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration are key. You’re comfortable navigating evolving workflows and wearing multiple hats as needed.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
  • Reliable and resourceful, with access to a personal vehicle and valid auto insurance for required travel.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 15 pounds and following OSHA safety standards.
