Rooted in South Dallas, Abide Women’s Health Services was built to ensure that mothers and birthing people receive care that honors their dignity, listens to their voices, and supports their whole families. Inspired by the founding vision of Cessilye R. Smith and strengthened by a community of clients, birthworkers, partners, and supporters, Abide has recorded zero maternal or infant deaths across 231 live births since 2020, delivered 1,274 clinical services in 2025, and reached families across 12 counties throughout the DFW metroplex.

Meet Ms. Singleton

Ms. Singleton found Abide through a nonprofit ultrasound center when she went to confirm her pregnancy. She told them she wanted care from a Black-owned provider and didn’t have insurance — and they shared Abide’s information. She stopped by on her lunch break just to learn more, and Abide had an opening that same day. That became her very first prenatal appointment, at only eight weeks pregnant. From that moment, Abide took care of her through her entire pregnancy and six weeks postpartum. As a first-time mom, she was listened to, supported, and respected in what she wanted for her birth. When she tried seeing another provider closer to home, it wasn’t the same. “I felt like just a number, and I didn’t feel heard,” she said. She came back to Abide. After her birth, Abide connected her with a postpartum doula and lactation support, and shared resources she never would have found on her own. “Knowing I have trusted people I can reach out to has made motherhood feel less overwhelming.”
